I’m in Student Council~

,

Hello! I’m back! Welcome to Grace’s blogg. Today I’m talking about me in student council.

So yess, you got it right. I am in student council this year. I spent a lot of time preparing my speech and as elders would say, hard work does pay off, I got elected for student council.

This election is made by all students in my grade (seventh grade) and usually friends vote for friends. This is a hard election because I am not exactly best friends with anyone, but I am a good friend with everyone. But in elections, you will always vote for your best friend, who is never me. If you are one of those people, you will find my advice very helpful.

I did many preparations in order to get this student council spot. Here are some things I did and you can try them out if you ever want to run for student council at your school. It is helpful and really attracts your classmates and teachers!

  • Buy food for your classmates: Usually, student council elections happen in the first or second week of school, when new students come in. Bribe buy them food, especially candy if you are in middle school and below. I mean, who dislike some candy on the first week of school! I personally bought two big packs of jolly ranchers and smarties, not the best choice comparing to Oreos and Reese’s, but good enough to talk to new faces, be friends with them, and certainly saved me a lot of pocket money…
  • Be nice to the new students: always be there to lead the way for new students. Tell them where their classes are, which buildings they’re in. Be there when they need help and sit with them during lunch. Get their numbers and add them to a group chat if there is one. New students will be really thankful to you and probably vote for you. Don’t forget to hang out with your already-made friends, be balanced between both new and returning students.
  • Bring extra stationary (cute ones if you have them): Bringing an extra pencil, pen, highlighter, or eraser, could really lighten up someone’s day. It is easy that on the first few days of school, people forget their pencil cases. Be the first one to offer them an extra pen or pencil. Small acts like this could easily be remembered by the person taking your kindness or by others seeing it.
  • Don’t forget to prepare a good speech! Sometimes, we do too many things that seem nice and forget to prepare a good speech. A good speech is crucial for people to know who you are and why they should vote for you. A good structure may be: say your name and some interesting information that people will mention about you (probably positive ones), what you have done before (if you have any), what you will do to improve the community (this one is important), and a summary of basically saying how you will help improve the school with the best of your abilities. Here is something important: Always say your name at the end of the speech so people will remember you.
  • Try to advocate for your school before the election so you will be able to gain more votes from others. For me, our school came up with a new phone policy about locking our phones during the day. Don’t worry, it’s not as severe as it seems, but the problem is, some of us have the last period in a very far building, and our phones are in the middle school building. I didn’t want us to trek all the way back to the middle school just to grab our phones and head to co-curricular when it could be much more easier. So, I decide to ask the head teacher of the middle school to allow us to take our phones with us if our last period is far away. The middle school head teacher agreed to my request, and now, many of my classmates are thankful to me.

So, these are all the advices I could give for student council election! Stay tuned for more interesting activities!
