Last summer, I went to a camp called AI and Creative Arts for a week. In the camp, I learned about the basics of AI and generated pictures by giving prompts. Now that AI is getting more and more attention, I would like to elaborate about what I know.
AI stands for Artificial Intelligence. It means machines (like computers or robots) that can think and learn like people. These machines can now help create art! I have learned a few ways of creating art during the time period
- Drawings and Paintings
AI can create pictures by copying styles of famous artists or by making brand-new designs. I made an elephant with blue stripes, happy eyes, and a cute sweater and brown leather boots with AI. I simply put in the prompt, and ta-da, a beautiful little cartoon character. However, one thing that AI could improve is that sometimes things get unrealistic. For example, it generated an elephant with two eyes once, and weird noses. Another time, the elephant had a mermaid tail. However, after guidance again and again, the elephant finally came into shape. - Music
AI can write songs and make music by learning from real songs. It can create beats, melodies, or even full music pieces. I used Suno to create a song by writing the style, the type of music and the feeling I want to express. I also created another song by writing the lyrics, and both came out very creative and appealing to the ears. - Writing Stories and Poems
AI can write poems, stories, and even pretend to be famous authors! I use AI to write stories of my friends and I. I would put our initials (the beginning letter of our first and last name) into AI sources like ChatGPT and ask it to generate a story based on a book I like, such as the Summer I Turn Pretty. Then, my friends and I would read and laugh over the silly names the AI came up with.
Why It Matters:
I think AI matters because it really helps people brainstorm, come up with new ideas, and create pieces of work. You can ask AI to help you review for tests, and come up with fun little pranks to do to your siblings… However, a quick note, because everyone is relying on AI, sometimes it gets things wrong, such as saying a child should eat a rock a day to help with growth. That is totally wrong, so don’t trust AI on anything. And please don’t cheat on tests with it!
